Position of Company Secretary - BVA

The British Voice Association (BVA) is the UK's 'voice for voice'. Our remit is the encouragement of a healthy voice, vocal skills and communication in such areas as the performing arts, business and industry, medicine and education’. To that end, we are dedicated to supporting, informing and encouraging members of all professions who work with these individuals. Our diverse membership includes singing teachers, speech and language therapists, spoken voice teachers and specialist ENT clinicians. The BVA is a charity, 100% funded through membership fees, events income and donations.

We are seeking a new Company Secretary. This is a highly varied position with responsibility for ensuring the effective governance of the organisation. It necessitates a good understanding of a charity's responsibilities and knowledge of the relevant statutory and regulatory policies and procedures that underpin it.

The post-holder is a key member of a highly committed team including the President, Treasurer, and Administrator, as well as the governing Council, Executive Committee and various working groups.

Our Council and Executive Committee both meet bi-monthly on alternating months. Meetings usually take place at 6.15pm at a venue close to London Bridge station, SE1. The Company Secretary is needed at these meetings but is not obliged to attend any working group meetings.

Like all BVA offices, this role is voluntary (note, expenses are reimbursed). It is ideally suited to someone with a relevant professional or educational background, or who has otherwise gained appropriate experience eg in another voluntary setting.

We hope to make this appointment as soon as possible. For further information or an informal discussion about the role, please contact administrator@britishvoiceassociation.org.uk in the first instance.
